Handmade Oboe Reed Suppliers
This is by no means a comprehensive list. These are just some of the places I am familiar with. If you are branching out, there will inevitably be some trial and error you should anticipate.
Bjorklund Oboe Reeds -
This is the site I run for my own reeds. If you're my student, you don't have to order through my site as we can just do the exchange in person. But it's here if you need it!
Good Tone Guild -
This company is run by a very nice and extremely committed oboe player in California. I met her a few years ago and was very impressed with her reeds. She keeps files on all of her customers and encourages input so the reeds she makes for you will only improve as she figures out more and more of what works for you. I highly recommend her.
Singin’ Dog Double Reed Supplies -
This style of reed is quite different from mine, but the reeds are good. Reeds are usually shipped quickly and are always in good condition. There are several hardness levels to choose from, so there is sure to be a style to fit all types of students.
North Texas Oboe Reeds and Cane -
Stephen is another UNT graduate, so this is a similar style to my reeds. He has been selling reeds of high integrity for many years.
Edmund Nielsen Woodwinds -
I have never tried these reeds personally, but I know several people who suggest these reeds to their students. These reeds are organized by colors. I would recommend reading all the descriptions to find the “perfect” reed for yourself based on the “Guide to Oboe Reed Selection” on the website.
Hodge Products, Inc. -
Hodge supplies reeds from many different sources. I'm not familiar with all of these makers but it gives you more options to choose from with some helpful descriptions for each one.
